Pitch for THE ROOM

This is my pitch for the best video game ever. Based on THE ROOM:

Play through 6 increasingly mundane levels as you struggle to understand life. Set against the scenic green screen of San Francisco can you collect all the spoon power ups to attend Johnny's birthday party before it tears him apart? With four playable characters:

Lisa: With your red dress and rose petals can you keep your affair with Johnny's best friend a secret? Collect all the scotchka bonus glasses or face sitting on an atomic bomb that's waiting to go off.

Denny: Evade Chris-R while you try to collect eggs, flour, milk and butter to make “brownies” for the party. Steal shoes for a speed boost and avoid eating any poisoned apples. Power Word: OH HAI.

Silk Shirt Guy: Who the fuck are you? Will you find out in time to crash the birthday? Or will your lack of character name tear the group of friends apart?

Mark: Can you use your own brand of Sestosterone to keep your friendship with Lisa and Johnny alive? Special weapons include magic box and moving lighter and patented “baby face.”

ENEMIES: Chris-R: He wants. His fucking. MONEY.

Claudette: She has breast cancer. Can you avoid her sage advice long enough to make her do the dishes after Johnny's party?

Michelle: She looks like a normal person? What is she doing in this game? Beware, she'll help you move coffee tables, but she's wicked fast with a pillow.

Can you make it to the shocking ending? Will Johnny's party be a success? Did you use good thinking and invite all his friends? And what will become of them, in THE ROOM.

Convention Season and Dirty Ploy

For the first time ever I went to WonderCon with the intention of purchasing something specifically to sell on eBay. I’ve sold random swag for movies I didn’t care for or buttons for things I’ve never watched before. Because hey, if you love OMGADORABLECHIBIANIME thing then more power to you. Better you have it and cherish it than me throw it away. But somehow buying something at a Con simply to profit makes me feel dirty.

So here’s the gist. WonderCon had these exclusive Green Lantern figures. Hal as a Black Lantern and Sinestro as a White Lantern. Limited to 1500 each exclusive to the con. To get them you had to wait in these long ass lines for a drawing for a CHANCE to buy them. So it was sort of boring and labor intensive to get these figures. In fact I spent a good 2-3 hours of the con in a line. I bought 4 figures for a total of $87. I sold 2 of them on eBay for $100. So I could actually keep the second set and I still made $23. So really it’s a win-win. I got monies, some guy in Canada gets a cool set of figures he wouldn’t otherwise have had.

So why do I feel like a con whore?

Live-Tweet February 21

Tonights live-tweet, at Midnight Pacific time, will be Freddie Vs. Jason. I love Freddie. I love Jason. So you would think these two together would be EPIC. But alas. It was not to be. Incidentally I also love bacon AND I love cookies. But bacon cookies would be vomit worthy. Let's see what kind of bacon cookie this movie is. 

Nightwing just got a whole lot sexier.

So aside from the fact that Dick Greyson's ass is legendary, he's going to be voiced by Neil Patrick Harris in the upcoming animated feature of Under the Hood. Not gonna lie, I'm more excited about this than any (theorized) upcoming Batman 3 movie. For full details see here.

So slightly sad that Mark Hamil won't be reprising his Joker role, but it'll be a fresh look at the Joker I suppose. NOT TO MENTION THIS AMAZING TIE IN STATUE!(so excited it needed capslock)

WonderCon

In total honesty, this is probably my favorite convention. And not just because I live 10 miles away and don't have to buy a hotel room. It's always less crowded than Comic-Con and more comic oriented than Movie oriented. Comic-Con has certainly drifted into the land of big name Movies and Promoters. Which as a shameless hunter of free swag isn't necessarily a bad thing. But there's something about meeting people like Tim Sale, Mike Mignola and Greg Rucka in a much smaller setting that's somehow more intimate. 

I'm just about to buy my tickets which is a decade old ritual. Normally this marks the beginning of Con season, but the hype around comic-con has slightly distorted that since I now have to purchase next years Comic-Con tickets about 2 weeks after returning home from Comic-Con. Ah how life changes.

Population 436

Last nights Live Tweet was rather dull I must admit. The movie wasn't bad in a way to make fun of, it was just slow and dull and uninteresting. While it was desperately trying to be creepy and unsettling it was more just the same slightly creepy stare repeated over and over and over and over. The best thing about it was Fred Durst. Which is a sentence I NEVER thought I would type. 

This has taught me a meaningful lesson. Thrillers do not make good live tweets. Too much build-up for not much pay off equals not a whole lot to tweet about. Next weeks options:

Shrooms

Last nights live tweet of Shrooms seemed to be a big success. (If you didn't follow it you should have: Kil1ertofu) Next week I'll be live tweeting a movie called Population 436. Here's the plot:

A census-taker (Sisto) is sent to investigate why a certain small town has had the same population -- 436 residents -- for the last 100 years.

And where it gets good? Staring Fred Durst. I know. I'm excited too. So this movie promises to be absolutely awful. Which should make for amazing tweeting. Population 436 is available on Netflix instant watch if you care to follow along. Tune in next Sunday at Midnight (Pacific Time). Prepare for awesome.

Sewing Goodness

In order to feel like I'm accomplishing something while Twittering non-stop, I've decided to take up sewing plushies seriously. I have a list of things to do to keep me entertained for a while. Most of this will be chronologed on http://365project.org/Kil1ertofu/365/.

Also I'm planning on completely revamping my website. Switching from Flash to a more basic and simple HTML setup. Easier to update, and probably a more pleasing aesthetic. More to come in the near future!

New Derby

This weeks derby entry. The theme is bugs. So I decided to illustrate a nice jaunty tea time. They're casual right now, but imagince that right after tea they're going to play cricket, and wear monacles and say "Right-O chap." And all that. Vote for it here.

Submission part 2

So I made a second submission for this weeks derby. The theme is 'Home.' So this one is a fishy. A fish that lives in a bowl is boring, a fish that lives in a bowl while terrorizing the seven seas is awesome. The little image on the flag is kinda hard to see - it's the outline of an octopus. Yaaarrrr and such.

This weeks theme was 'Home.' So my design is a homeless guy warming himself in front of his box house, which opens up to a cave of wonders! He's living the dream. With his fancy chair and his stylish chandeliers....

Last weeks entry got rejected for some reason -which incited an online riot. (okay. 6 people were upset but still) Before being banished to rejection land, my design got up to 15th place. Which out of 250+ designs is pretty good. And then the Woot gods released their wraith upon my anthropomorphic bike riders. Oh well, maybe I'll have a chance to re-sub it for a different derby.

New derby shirt up at Woot.com. The theme this week was 'green'. The color or the idea. So my theory is that if endangered species rode their bikes, then we could drive our cars more. Inconsiderate animals..

Anyway. This design didn't take me nearly as long as last weeks, and I like the simplicity of this one a lot more. Not to mention it was fun to try and contort a zebra into a biking position.

Woot Shirts!!!!

So I finally submitted something to the Shirt.Woot weekly derby. The theme was to create a symbol for an imaginary nation. So my nation is the land of overcompensation. Where everything is more extravagent and there's a lot more of it. Their motto: The Amalgamated Territories of the Organization of the United Brotherhood of the Fraternal Order of the Society of Really Important Places.

It's been steady at about 84th place. As long as I stay in the top 100 I think it'll be a solid first showing in my first derby. In order for it to move up in rank people need to vote for it.

InDesign Seminar

Last Friday I went to a Kelby Training seminar on Adobe InDesign. It was held in the convention center in Sacramento, which is good because that's before the crazy Sacramento freeway interchange where 3 freeways called I-80 intersect with a bunch of other freeway's and I always take the wrong one. =)

The seminar was taught by Taz Tally who was exceptionally good. Not only did he make a software training class interesting, he had a lot of tips that were relevant to my job, not to mention a comparison/contrast with Quark. I learned a lot. I spent most of the seminar mentally banging my head into a wall wishing I had known this stuff a year ago when preparing my portfolio at Davis. I learned tons of time savers and shortcuts that I had no idea even existed. Plus there was a section on Adobe Bridge which is a feature that I just started using a few months ago - but I'm planing on using a lot more now since it has some excellent features (most notably the batch rename and info template).

The best thing is that the seminar came with a booklet that followed along with the seminar and had room in the margins for notes, so I could pay more attention to the demonstrations instead of furiously jotting notes like I was back in college. I also joined the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), which gives me access to tips and tricks for all the adobe products and discounts at a bunch of places. So here's to starting my new life as an InDesign pro.

Open Office

For once I paid attention to some pop up advertising. Java was doing it's update thing and it had a little ad for a program called Open Office. So I went to the site and downloaded it. It's great! I use Works for all my word processing/spreadsheet needs. But it doesn't open .doc files. So when someone sends me a word file I can't open it. But Open Office is solving that for me in a big way - it even has a program to open Power Point files, and you can edit and save in the same format. This thing is awesome.

InDesign Seminar

So next friday I'll be up in Sacramento all day with a bunch of other designers and artsy people for an InDesign Seminar. I'm hoping this will bring back all the InDesign stuff I learned up at Davis. I haven't used the program since I graduated so this will be a nice refresher course and I'm hoping to pick up some advanced skills. It's from 10 to 5 so I'll be inundated with tons of info. But that's good. After that I'm planning on doing some mock-ups so I don't lose the skills.

Additionally I ordered Quark a few days ago and it should be on its way. Quark was one of those programs that we didn't learn in school. All of my teachers always insisted that it was an outdated program that no one used - come to find out nearly all the places I apply for work require it. So I'm going to do some online classes so I can at least be familiar with the program. Hopefully it'll be similar to InDesign so I'll be able to pick it up quickly.

Ryan can skate!!

Jubilant throngs fill streets as the national deficit is refunded due to the beauty of Ryan's skating ability. Soldiers are expected to return from Iraq within the week as Homeland Security has reduced the national threat level to an 'all clear' green due to a world wide peace-movement brought on by the skating ability of this young man. We can expect many prominent companies to be contacting him shortly about product deals.
